We’re pretty sure Tommy Fleetwood just pulled off a first at the Old Course (involving two golf balls)

News

As the “Home of Golf,” St. Andrews has seen a lot of things through the years. Classic battles, historic performances, and not one, but two golfers with a mullet hoisting the claret jug. But it’s possible Tommy Fleetwood did something there on Wednesday that’s never been seen in all the centuries the Old Course has been in existence.

During a practice round for this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Fleetwood found himself in a familiar—but uncomfortable–position over the back of the green on the famed Road Hole. But not only did Tommy manage to hole his pitch shot, he somehow knocked a second golf ball into the hole for a result you have to see to believe:

“St. Andrews is a magical place!!” Tommy tweeted with the video. No arguments here. That is pure sorcery right there, and one of the best unintentional trick shots we’ve ever seen.

Of course, there are people pointing to a possible backstopping violation here because that other ball near the hole wasn’t marked. But again, this isn’t the real tournament—and can’t we just enjoy something without picking it apart anymore?!

Fleetwood is playing alongside LIV golfer Branden Grace for the DP World Tour pro-am event, which uses St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Fleetwood will start the tournament at Carnoustie, where he set the course record (63) in 2017.

And now he has an unofficial record at St. Andrews by knocking in two golf balls with one swing. Even Old and Young Tom Morris would have to be impressed by this Tommy.
