Ryder Cup 2021: Watch Bryson DeChambeau come damn close to driving the 1st green at Whistling Straits

News

HAVEN, Wis. — It appears our wishes to have Bryson DeChambeau hit the ceremonial opening drive Friday morning at the Ryder Cup with fireworks and F-15 flyovers have gone unheeded by the powers that be, which frankly is a loss for us all. However, the beefy man showed he’s capable of creating plenty of pyrotechnics on his own, evidenced by this feat of strength during Thursday’s practice round at Whistling Straits.

Amid the final practice before the Ryder Cup begins in earnest, DeChambeau did his best to pump up the home crowd that filled the stadium surrounding the first tee by going full send, Bay Hill-style, with his drive.

And boy, did he come damn close to driving the green.

The first at Whistling Straits measures in at 364 yards, although it was slightly shorter by Thursday’s markers. But now is not the time for pesky caveats.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be shocked, given the array of missiles Bryson has dropped over the past two seasons. But should he go for the green during actual competition this weekend, expect the moment to register on the Richter scale.
