Shriners Children’s Open 2021: Oddsmakers like Scottie Scheffler’s chances of earning first PGA Tour title

News

Though Scheffler has yet to earn a PGA Tour win, most expect that to change very quickly. Oddsmakers think it might happen this weekend—as most sportsbooks tabbed him as one of the favorites at this week’s Shriners Children’s Open. Scheffler has teed it up in the past two editions of the event, missing the cut in 2020 and finishing T-74 in 2019.

For those following this event closely, perhaps it’s not the best event to bet a favorite. Only Bryson DeChambeau in 2018 (14-1 odds) and Patrick Cantlay in 2017 (20-1) have earned the victory as one of the best players in the field. Last season, Martin Laird earned the victory at 225-1 odds; Kevin Na in 2019 was 70-1; Rod Pampling in 2016 was 300-1; Smylie Kaufman in 2015 was 250-1 and Ben Martin was 225-1 (historical odds courtesy of GolfBettingSystem.co.uk).

Scheffler will hope that trend moves back toward the favorites at TPC Summerlin. He’s one of a number of marquee names who will tee it up this week, including 11 of the top 25 in the world rankings. Viktor Hovland is a slight favorite at BetMGM; Brooks Koepka is the favorite at other books, and some of the world’s best are right behind in a crowded tier.

Here are all the opening odds for the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open, courtesy of BetMGM:

Charles Howell III: 150-1

Francesco Molinari: 150-1
